Chrysler Repair: horn on 1996 chrysler sebring lxi, chrysler sebring, horn button

Question
The horn is not working.  I opened the relay box and switched the relay for the horn with the relay for the headlights which are working and the horn still did not work.  According to Advance Auto, the only part for the horn is this relay.  What is wrong with this car.  You can hear the relay clicking when the horn button is being pressed.

Answer
Hi James,
I have the wiring diagrams for the 95 Sebring sedan. In that model a single fuse, #2 in the underhood power box, powers the relay and the horn. So if the relay clicks the horn should work unless the wire to the horn is interrupted, or the ground wire at the horn is loose or the horn is bad. Measure for voltage at the horn's non-black wire when a helper activates the horn (with the ignition in the run position; I think the wire will be green/red). If you get 12v then  check that the black ground wire is not loose. If 12v gets to the plug at the horn and the ground wire is tight, then the horn has gone bad. Sometimes there is an adjusting screw on the horn body that if rotated one way or the other will get it to vibrate again. So look for such a screw with a lock nut. If you find it, try rotating the screw in either direction but keep track of the original postion of the screw. If adjusting it doesn't help, the last thing to try is jumping a wire from the battery to the horn to see if it really is working or not.
