Chrysler Repair: Quirky Sebring LXi alarm, chrysler sebring lxi, chrysler sebring

Question
We recently purchased a used 1999 Chrysler Sebring LXi and can't figure out a problem with the alarm.
If the door is locked and the windows are open and you reach in and hit the unlock button from the inside, the alarm goes off. Pressing any of the buttons on the remote doesn't do a thing. It stops after awhile, but as soon as you open the door again (even if it's already unlocked) it starts beepin' & flashin'. We have to disconnect the battery for awhile to get it to reset itself.

Answer
Hi Rose,
I think that opening the car from inside when it is armed to prevent theft will always set off the alarm. You can only open the car safely when armed by using the remote or opening the doors with a key. If the remote is not disarming or arming the car then try replacing the battery in the remote fob.
I would avoid playing with the system so you don't get into "hard" lockdown of the motor. Disconnecting the battery is not effective in cancelling such a lock down situation. You either have to use a working fob or lock/unlock either door.
I assume that the security system will alarm properly. If you think that it is getting flakey then I would avoid using it by simply always locking the door with the door key. Otherwise you can get into a hard to disarm lock down of the engine.
Let me know if you still have a question via the "thank and rate" tab below as I will be hard to reach for the next few days. I get an alert and will respond.
