Chrysler Repair: 1995 Concorde: turn signal/flasher question, turn signal flasher, airbag module

Question
Hi Roland:

You gave me some information on troubleshooting the turn signals/flashers on a 1995 Concorde.  I checked the underhood fuse, which has continuity.  When I pulled the panel above the brake pedal to access the flasher, and activated the flasher switch or the turn signals, I hear a buzzing sound from what I guess is a relay.  This relay is black, and plugs into a white power block (for lack of a better description) which is above and to the left of the brake pedal.  I'm assuming the relay isn't completing the circuit to allow signal/flasher operation.  Any clue as to what this part is?  Do you think it's causing my problem?

Thanks,
Don Hamilton

Answer
Hi Don,
I believe the black object is the combined turn signal and hazard warning flasher, called the combo flasher. Because neither of those functions work I suspect that this unit needs for be replaced. There are four wires to the combo flasher:black, dark blue/pink,red/white, and pink, for purposes of positive identification. So if the unit is buzzing it sounds to me that it is not functioning as it should. You might want to check the black wire to make sure that it is tightly grounded where it attaches near the airbag module in the center console under the dash; the other three wires come from the switch on the steering column. A poor ground might cause the unit to be not doing its job. Otherewise, replace the combo flasher.
