Chrysler Repair: chrysler lhs 1997 water pump, haynes manual, chrysler lhs

Question
How do I get to the water pump on a 1997 chysler lhs?

Answer
Hi Phil,
Because you are asking, I suspect that the water pump is not visible to you and so you must have the 3.5L engine, rather than the 3.3L which also was offered on the LHS.
The water pump on the the 3.5 is driven by the timing belt and one side of it is actually attached to the engine block, so to access it you have to remove the timing belt covers and the associated tasks with changing the timing belt in order to change the water pump. For this reason, it is ofter suggested that both the timing belt and water pump be changed even if only one or the other needs to changed, unless the other one was recently changed compared to its expected mileage lifetime (like 100,000 miles). So you would want access to  either the Haynes manual for LHS (93-97) or a Chrysler LHS shop manual (any year) for all the details. I can xerox and postal mail you the necessary pages from my '94 Chrysler shop manual.
If I am wrong and you have the 3.3L, that one's water pump is more external and only requires that you remove the inner fender shield to give you a little more room to work. Again, I will send you the necessary pages, for the specifics. Let me know if this answer doesn't meet your needs.
