Chrysler Repair: 98 Sebring Convertable, sebring jx, sebring convertable

Question
I have a 98 Sebring JX Convertable, it will shut off after running for 15 minutes or so and will not start again for 5 to 10 minutes. I have taken it to the Shop, they replaced the ignition system and it still does the same thing.

Answer
Hi Ray,
The "ignition system" has many individual parts. Please look at the invoice of what parts were replaced, and tell me. My suspicion is that one of the two sensors for determining the position of the crankshaft and the camshaft is breaking down as it warms up, then 'healing' when it cools, etc., etc. If they listed one of those sensor as having been replaced than that theory is perhaps out the window. So let me know.
The shop should have read the memory of the engine controller before they changed anything because many of the components (such as those sensors) will fail in such a manner as to be recognized by the engine controller which then puts a four digit number in its memory that is then decoded ro identify the specific item that is in question. So see if readout was listed as to which codes were found to be present. If there is no indication of this sort of readout, and the repairs didn't solve the problem, then I believe you may have a case for restitution for inappropriate repairs. With modern vehicles such as yours, a competent shop will have a code readout box and always use it first. Small claims court may be the way to go if this proves to be the case and they won't make good on their work.
But it all depends upon what the invoice says. So let me know what you find. Did you go back to the shop and tell them that their work did not solve your problem? But get back to me with answers to the above questions before taking any further action.
