Chrysler Repair: 2001 Chrysler Sebring 3.0 LXI Question, fuel pressure regulator, bells and whistles

Question
I know your bio says that you cna answer questions to car years 1999, but maybe you cna point me in the right direction. I have a 2001 Chysler Sebring 3.0 liter V6. It has the automatic tranny and all the bells and whistles. Now for the problems:

1. When the car is running, after about 10 minutes, there is fuel seepingout of the fuel line to the regulator. Is this a sign of a bad fuel pressure regulator?

2. When the car is at idle with the AC on, the engine surges like it is tring all it can to keep the ac running. There is also VERY noticable drag on the engine while driving at speed. Bad compressor or is there a switch or sensor, that need replacemet. Mind you, I have a scan tool and I have put it on the car and caused the engine to stall with the AC on at idle. However, there were no codes.

If you can point me in the right direstion, I am sure that I can fix it. The local Chrysler service place will not even speak to me unless I pay the $90.00 and hour entry fee so they can plug it in to see that there were no codes too.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Matt,
Thanks for recognizing my limitations as to model years.
I can only suggest that a fuel leak needs to be dealt with to prevent an engine fire. It could be the pressure regulator or the interconnect of the fuel line to the regulator, and that would need to be ascertained to decide which to replace.
The drag on the engine is not atypical when you ask for AC. The engine controller is supposed to recognize when the AC is activated and respond by raising the idle speed to take that into account. Similarly, when underway the cycling of the compressor will be noticed, at least I do in my less powerful LeBaron with a 2.5L 4 cyl engine of the '89 model year. So maybe what you are observing is normal.
I would respect the readout of the reader that there are no codes.
