Chrysler Repair: driver side power seat, light dims, postal mail

Question
The driver side power seat will only move 2" (on my wifes 1995 chrysler lhs) forward or back is this normal my wife has a hard time reaching the pedals. If this is normal do you have any suggestions on how to adjust the seat so it gets closer to the pedals.  Note the passenger seat has full range foward and back.

Thank you,

Dennis

Answer
Hi Dennis,
This limited range of motion might be due to mechanically restriction in the motion of the seat, or to electrical discontinuity (though I would question why it would fail with such limited range of mition due to an electrical issue). At the limits of its motion, observe whether the dome light dims while she is trying to move it forward or back. If it dims that would show the problem is a mechanical restriction in the tracks which might be cured by examining for debris under the seat or even removing it for closer inspection. It it seems to stop electrically without the light dimming then the possibility of an electrical limitation in the ability of the circuit to operate for more than the time required to move the 2 inches could be considered. That involves testing the wiring to see if the power to the horizontal seat motor is failing.
I have 3 pages from the '94 shop manual that I could xerox and send to you if you want to work on this yourself. Just tell me an address to postal mail to.
