Chrysler Repair: odometer, replacement gears, speedometers

Question
I have 1988 lebaron conv the odometer doesn't work, but the speedometer does. I have put 3 different dash clusters in the car and the odometer in all of them don't work ( the speedometers do work )
What could be my problem?
Thank you in advance, Ron

Answer
Hi Ron,
In the 80's the odometer and speedometer were driven by the same signal (the distance sensor on the trans) so you are getting signal to the speedometer head. The odometer is a gear drive off of the input signal and thus the usual cause for odo failure is gear wearout. There is a company that sells replacement gears at www.odometergears.com
at a price of $25 per set, I believe. So that is the most likely repair for your situation.
