Chrysler Repair: starting problem with the neon, dodge neon, neon 2

hey roland its me again lol well another problem with the neon well i thought i would tell you what i have again i have a 98 dodge neon 2.0 sohc with 101000 miles on it like u didnt know lol well i just done a headgasket replacement vavle job and head resurfaced timing belt water pump lol a lot i know lol well the last 2 weeks i had problems starting it when it sits awhile when i turn the key it turns over good but it takes awhile to start and i know with a fuel injection it shouldnt do that but what could cause this and i checked for trouble codes and only 12 and 55 ccame up which that mean nothing so what could cause this and what can i do and is there any test i can do and thank you again roland with everything

Hi Derek,
Because it ultimately starts, I think you probably have spark from the beginning of the starting effort but not fuel pressure sufficient to produce a good mixture. I would check over all the fuel line connections to see if there might be a leak, and then if you don't find it try measuring the fuel pressure with a gauge on the port connection on the fuel rail usually near the engine when it is running and when you turn it off follow it to see if it drops rapidly. It could be that the pressure regulator is weak and not holding the pressure and thus allowing the fuel to drain back into the tank so that when you come to start it the pump has to pump up the system again, or something like that.
