Chrysler Repair: 1996 sebring jx convertible, amp fuse, sitiuation

Question
having relatively few problems with this car over the last several years i have an electical issue which is confusing. the 20 amp ingnition fuse which also is in line with the console indications blows after trying to start the car. with a new fuse in and the ignition key to the 1 stage all is good. try and turn it over and poof. i jumped out the fuse with an insulated solid copper wire and the car balked a bit then ran fine. no discoloration or melt on the insulation. i dont think its a dead short or i would have blown the 40amp master. i took the jumper out and replaced it with a new 20 amp fuse and the car turned over. 2 starts later the same thing occured. bad starter? bad ignition key cylynder? there doesnt appear to be any appreciative drain on the battery and no 'idiot' lights while running.

Answer
Hi Ken,
I have the wiring diagrams for the '95 Sebring sedan which should be very similar to that of your car as far as the ignition switch circuit is concerned. The problem I need help with is exactly where the fuse that blows is located and if it has a position number associated with it or a name printed on the board. Is it under the hood or under the dash? Does the car have manual or automatic trans and does it have a theft alarm (these have slightly different circuits)? I suspect that the fuse was originally 10 amp and someone changed it to 20 and even that is not sufficient.
Usually I would suspect that the current draw is due to a defective starter relay or a defective starter motor solenoid, but I would be able to give you better advice if you can tell about the fuse so I can be sure of the circuit that is drawing too much current.
Also, if you can identify the "master" that you believe powers this 20 amp fuse that would be helpful.
Thanks for clarifying the sitiuation.
