Chrysler Repair: Vision - Lost remote, chrysler vision, chrysler dealer

Question
Hello,

I have a question regarding my 95 Chrysler Vision. I have lost my main key and remote, so now I'm left out with a wallet key only. But this key doesn't disarm the car, so the motor shuts down almost right after I start it. Is there any way to disarm the car, or will I have to call a dealer service ?

Thank You, Peter.

Answer
Hi Peter,
That is a frustrating situation, I know. Unfortunately the only way to disarm the system is to have a true door lock key or a remote that has been programmed to match the theft module in the car. Once you have disarmed the system it is possible to disconnect the module if you want to permanently end its function (this is certainly true of the '94 where the module was a separate unit, but at some point thereafter the theft system was integrated in the body computer which makes it tough to disable it). My suggestion is to contact a Chrysler dealer and see what provisions have been set up for such a situation. I believe that they (the factory headquarters in Detroit) do have a record of the true door key # and possibly of the code for the remote based on the vehicle identification number, and that you may just have to show ownership/registration to be able for them to cut you a new door key and set up a new remote. But other than that the system can't be beaten without first disarming it. Were that not the case it would be too easy to steal. That is my understanding of it. I would not try to improvise, the engine controller has been programmed to not put out any fuel until the system is disarmed so that makes it mandatory to go about this in the appropriate manner.
