Chrysler Repair: 93 Concorde-no codes-no start, amp fuses, fuel pump relay

Question
Roland:
My 93 automatic Concorde w/3.5 engine. For the last week it would not start on the first crank. I would have to turn the key on, off, on, off, on, etc until I heard the pump kick in, and then it would start.
Now, this week, it won't start. I don't hear the pump run. I have changed the fuel pump relay with another one and checked the fuses. I put in a used fuel pump and still no start. I tried to get a code, with the on-off-on-off-on, but the check engine light is not on so no codes. It does crank over and the lights work, but the pump does not run.
What do I check now?
thanks:

Answer
Hi Monte,
I would of course relace the check engine bulb in the dash so that you can read codes.
As for now, it appears that you are not getting either the momentary voltage to the pump when you first put it to the run position nor voltage when you try and start it. This makes me think it is autoshutdown relay or the voltage source for the coil of that relay which is a fuse in the junction block under the dash. Look at all the 10 amp fuses in the bottom row of 7 fuse sockets, the 5th from the left I think is the one for the ASD and fuel pump relay coil supply voltage. It could be that the wire in the fuse has a very subtle crack in it that means it works intermittantly but then fails without totally blowing out. It might be labelled #18, or F12 or the pins might be labelled 35-36.
Even check it with a volt-ohmmeter to verify that it is supplying 12V across it. If that seems o.k. then I would consider replacing the ASD relay in the power distribution center under the hood, particularly if you pull the coil pack plug and verify that it too is not getting 12v on its dark green/orange wire for a moment when you first switch to the run position or when you crankover the engine. If you don't see it momentarily, and that #18 fuse to the ASD is o.k then that would mean the ASD relay is no good. If you do get 12v momentarily there, then I would replace the fuel pump relay which is diaginally across from the ASD relay in that same PDC box.
