Chrysler Repair: 1997 chrysler sebring v6 engine with 604 transmission, sebring conv, solenoid pack

Question
on the 97 chrysler sebring conv. with 604 trans the engine runs ok the vehicle drives fine in gear but the  transmission does not shift. the obd II gives codes P0760 shift solenoid c and code P0700 trans control system malfunction. what would the likely problem be? thanks

Answer
Hi Marc,
I don't have the precise manual that describes the '97 codes, but the 2001 code list and a 2004 manual that I have suggest to me that the 0700 code is a generic code for when the trans controller has detected a fault that turns on the check light on the dash, and the 0760 is pointing to the overdrive solenoid circuit not responding properly (electrical continuity test failure) or a related pressure switch failure of the OD hydraulic circuit. The good news apparently is that it should be reparable without removing the trans (very expensive) but rather just working on the solenoid pack which is a separate unit on the side of the trans facing the front of the vehicle. So unless you have the trans repair manual and some experience it may mean having the dealer or a knowledgeable independent trans shop work on that pack or replacing it or maybe just the OD solenoid.
Please let me know if this is not how things work out for you.
