Chrysler Repair: 1991 Lebaron dash gauge cluster, chrysler lebaron, 1991 chrysler lebaron

Question
Hi Roland,
I have a 1991 Chrysler Lebaron. The gauge cluster is the basic speedo, gas gauge on the right and small temp / battery on the left. I would like to know if I can convert this over to the upgraded cluster which has the tachometer on the right and the 4 gauges on the left? I don't think it's an easy remove plug and play, but is there a way to wire it into the main computer by the passenger kick panel or some how swap it over? Thanks for you help. Ken

Answer
Hi Ken,
The manual's wiring diagrams don't differentiate between the two mechanical clusters which leads me to believe that all the wires are present for the upgrade. You will probably need to change the oil pressure sending unit so that it has a pressure sender in addition to the low pressure switch. If the tachometer is not wired to the dash you can pretty easily make the connection from the body controller in the engine compartment to the cluster. The body computer is not involved. So take a look at the plugs to see if there is a gray/light blue wire on pin 6 of the black plug, which is the tach wire. And the oil pressure wire is on pin 13 of the black plug (gray/yellow).
The electronic cluster for the LeBaron  has different plugs and uses the data bus so it has entirely different wiring which would be a challenge to changeover.
