Chrysler Repair: Chrysler Door Lock Repair, power window switch, automatic door locks

Question
I own a 2000 LHS and I am having a problem with the rear driver side door lock.  It is now making a high pitch grind whenever the keyless entry locks the doors or whenever the automatic door locks activate when the cars is moving > 5 mph.  Any suggestions on this matter?  Thanks

Answer
Hi Raul,
I don't have the 2000 shop manual but I suspect that the motor in the door that locks and unlocks the latch is stripped. So you will need to remove the door trim panel and then examine the electric motor that is part of (or connected to) the latch mechanism. The trim panel lifts up to release it from the door proper, but look around for any screws that might retain it as well. Also remove the door control switches, power window switch, etc by gently prying up and disconnecting their wiring plug. Once you get the trim panel off you can look around the area near the latch and determine how the motor is attached to the latch. You will probably have to remove the latch to work on the motor. You may be able to replace it with one from a wrecking yard. In fact going to a yard and finding a car with the same door and power locks would be a "find" because if it is "pull-it-yourself" yard you can practice on that door before you try to disassemble your own door. Good luck on this project.
