Chrysler Repair: 2002 Chrysler Sebring Limited--problem with ac/heater switch, chrysler sebring, resitance

Question
When I turn the knob to turn on the a/c or heat nothing happens unless I turn it all the way to max.  Is this a problem with the blower resistor or something else?  Can you give me an approximate quote to what repair would be to fix this?  We are moving overseas in a few weeks, so I am in process of selling car now and want to get this fixed asap.

Thanks for any advise or suggestions...

Answer
Hi Rhett,
Failure of the lower speeds of the fan is typically diagnotic of the resistor block going bad. To get to it you may want to remove the stoppers on either side of the interior of the glove box so that the box drops all the way down so as to give you better access to the duct that is to the left of the fan where you should see the resistor block and its 4-wire plug. (I am using the '95 manual about the glove box, so look first). Remove the plug and and block and replace it. You can test the resistors between the 4 pins: hold it with the tab up, then the lower left pin is the one to put a lead of an ohmmeter on and measure the resitance to the other three pins which should be close to 0 ohms if the block is good (0.4, 0.8. 1.8). Otherwise the block is bad.
