Chrysler Repair: Wiring of a chrysler radio., radio chassis, variable intensity

Question
Have a 95-96 radio out of a Dodge. There are 4 battery connections. I thought I knew what I was doing, But...  The radio will not power up. I have power going to "bat" and "ACC" and "Ill"  but not to "Park". ( I do not think I need to.) The lights come on, but nothing elses works. Please help. Thanks, JW Texas.

Answer
Hi JW,
A couple of suggestions and a question or two.
What is the name/model of the radio? And what are the number of plugs and how many wires in each plug? Do you have the radio mounted in the dash so that the case of the radio is attached to a metal bracket which serves as a return current path to the -post of the battery (ground)?
What model Dodge did it come out of and what car are you putting it into? Do the plugs match up between the two?
I wonder about all those points. But one thing I want to be sure about is that if it is a radio that has a separate amplifier unit that you also got the amplifier to go with the radio. Otherwise the output of the radio chassis is not designed to operate speakers, but rather it sends a signal source to an accessory amplifier mounted in the trunk or under the passenger seat that actually is designed to power the speakers. Even if that is not a possibility you will want to have the chassis grounded or it may not produce any audio output. About the power sources:
The park input is to light the dial when you turn on the headlamps for night usage. The ill is for the variable intensity light system so that the dial will be similarly as bright as the dash lights. The bat is to power the present station memory function. And the Acc is the power that is needed to operate the radio when you are driving with the key in the run position or with the key in the accessory position.
So let me know about some of these questions.
