Chrysler Repair: A/C Engine temp sensor llocation?, coolant temp, mixture control

Question
Hi Roland, I get a 34 code, i can replace the engine temp sensor if i know where it is, Know?

Thank you,did not know the A/C had self-dianostics?
Thank you, Mike Juneau

Answer
Hi Mike,
The only source of engine temp has to be the coolant temp sensor located next to thermostat housing on the front top of the engine. But its signal is received by the PCM and digitized and sent out on the data bus where it should be picked up by the A.C./Heater ATC controller, which has the data bus input on pins 3 and 4 of the black 8-pin plug of that control unit. If there were something wrong with the temp sensor you would get a fault code 22 on a readout of the engine controller. So check for that and you could also check the sensor which should read 7-13,000 ohms at 70F and 700-1,000 ohms at 200F. And if there were something wrong with the sensor you would have mixture control problems either when cold or after the engine warms up. Absent that, I doubt it is the sensor or its function to the PCM.
If all that check out, then let me know and I can give you pin assignments to check the twisted pair of data wires from their source to the ATC controller, which may be what is really causing the code 34.
Roland
Yes, you must have the ATC type of controller. Is there something wrong with how the system is working for you?
