Chrysler Repair: 97 heater fan always on high, heater blower resistor, rectangular plate

Question
Hi. 97 concorde heater fan just decided to stay on high. can't turn down or off.  switch? relay? other? thanks

Answer
Hi Chris,
That behavior is diagnostic of the heater blower resistor block having burned out. To get to it you would want to remove the silencer pad on the lower edge of the dash on the passenger side so that you can then see the blower motor housing on the underside of the heater/a.c. distribution housing. Notice how that pad is attached so that you can put it back the same way.
Adjacent to the blower motor (to the left) and mounted inside the air duct which carries the air from the blower you will see a rectangular plate with two screws and 2 electrical plug-ins. That is the resistor block. Get a new one from the dealer or see if you can find one at a wrecking yard. Just remove the plugs, unscrew the two screws and substitute a good unit for the burned out one. You multispeed fan wil be restored.

P.S. If you have digital temp readout control panel, the resistor block is supplanted by an electronic multispeed unit, but I am not sure that it fails with the same symptom as yours shows.
