Chrysler Repair: Power Windows, master switch, ohmmeter

Question
Regarding the Drivers window on 1999 concord lxi it feels like it is the swithch, no motor sound.  Switch clicks window is up.  I think the cover pops off.  How to tell if switch or motor.?

Answer
Hi Kathleen,
My reference materials for the Concorde are valid thru 1997 model, but assuming that also applies to your later model I believe that the easiest way to determine the answer is to remove the driver's door master switch and using an ohmmeter or a self-powered continuity tester (available at an electronics store) check whether the four connections necessary to power the motor are patent or not. If they are, and the other windows are operating o.k. from that master switch then the motor likely bad. If one or more or the connections are not patent then the switch's internal contacts are compromised. You might find that simply spraying some contact cleaner inside the switch will clean and regain continuity. If not, then a new switch will be necessary. So remove the bezel around the switch using a wooden flat stick to lift it up and out of the panel. Then remove three mounting screws on the switch, remove the switch, and unplug the electrical connector at the switch. There should be 11 numbered terminals on the switch. When you operate the switch in the manner to raise the driver window you should get continuity between 6 and 10 as well as between 5 and 11. And when you try the driver window lower position you should get continuity between 8 and 11 as well as 5 and 10. If those 4 measurement show continuity then it is time to remove the door panel and test the motor.
So let me know what you find from testing the switch proper.
