Chrysler Repair: Power steering pressure sensor, plymouth neon, power steering pump

Question
Hi Roland:

I have a 2000 Plymouth Neon that needs to have the power steering pressure sensor replaced.  I was wondering if you could possibly e-mail a diagram of where the sensor is located and directions on how to replace it.  Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

April

Answer
Hi April,
That pressure sensor is no doubt located in one of the pressure lines between the power steering pump and the the power rack assembly either going to or returning from, but exactly where is unknown to me. It is the only device that is electrical in nature in that tubing so it shouldn't be hard to locate if you trace the lines. There are two wires on the sensor, one is black and is a ground wire, the other is dark blue with light green trace and goes to the powertrain controller. So when you find it those wires will be the clue.
I don't have a manual that shows its location. However the switch is spoken of in a Haynes manual for the Cirrus/Status/Breeze for 2000 where I got the wire colors. Interestingly it suggests servicing of the unit should be done by a qualified shop but didn't say why.
I suspect it should not be a very time consuming job for a good brake shop to do. I would avoid the franchise type brake shop and instead go to an independent shop and ask for an estimate on the time to do the job. It is probably just an hydraulic fitting and an electrical plug that needs to be disconnected and reconnected.
I would be interested to know how you work this out. I wasn't aware of the addition of the switch, which evidentally began in the late 90's which is where my manual collection gets a little thin.
