Chrysler Repair: rear defroster, 1999 plymouth breeze, check fuse, socket pins

Question
The rear defroster doesn't work. i checked all the fuses in the engine and fuse paneland even tested the relay and bought a new one, but alas it still doesn't work, do you have any suggestions, i know on most cars there is the plug in tab and this car has no spot for one and i can't find where it would be connected

Answer
Hi Jeremy,
The Haynes manual tells how to check the switch, relay, and grid lines.
Rather than go thru the whole process, let's do the first part, and then if that checks out let me know and we can go thru the rest:
With the ignition in the ON position, depress the defogger switch. The indicator lamp should  light and remain on for approximately 10 minutes then go out. If the indicator illuminates the relay is o.k. and you should check the grid lines. If it fails to illuminate then either the relay is bad, there is a short in the circuit, or the LED light in the switch is bad. If the light fails to light check fuse 6 under the dash and then listen for the relay to click when you try the switch again. If it does not click then remove the relay and check for 12V at terminals 11 and 15 of the relay socket. If it isn't there then check fuse 12 in the PDC under the hood (if terminal 11 is dead) or fuse 15 in the cabin (if terminal 15 of the relaly socket is dead. Then check between socket pins 13 and 15 for voltage to be present when you depress the switch. It if is then because the relay should be working, but it doesn't click, that means the relay is bad. If you don't get 12v between 13 and 15 then there is a circuit problem from fuse 15 to the socket pin 15, or a problem from the pin 13 to and thru the switch and on to the ground.
On the grid itself, there are evidentally wire connectors at the lower corners but they are out of site. So you are supposed to wrap aluminum foil around the probe tips and press the foil to the corners of the grid (+ to the driver's side and - to the passenger side).
See if you get 12V between the two corners. If not then check the black ground wire at the right rear wheel well (in the trunk) that comes down from that corner of the grid.
I'll stop here while you try some of these tests. I am using the '95 Cirrus shop manual for these fuse numbers which may not be identical to your '99 Breeze. If the voltage supply seem o.k. then I'll describe how to check the grid itself.
