Chrysler Repair: alarm system, chrysler new yorker, perforated lines

Question
I have a 93 Chrysler new yorker Salon that has the alarm set and will not respond to the BOB to unlock and disable.  If I use the key to open the door it sets off the alarm and activates the engine shutdown.  This allows the car to start but will immediately shut down.  This happens in cold weather but will work in warm weather.  Is there any way to disable the system to allow the car to start?  Other problems possibly associated with the BCM is the trunk is often unlocked when I first get in and start the car.  Also the right front door lock usually will not respond to either the BOB or the manual button.
Is this associated with the Body Control Module and where is it located.  The repair manual hardly even mentions this and says to refer to Chrysler repair.
Thanks,
Joe

Answer
Hi Joe,
The theft system is indeed part of the body control module. It is not all that complicated, but diagnosing why you are having the problem is tricky without a diagnostic readout box, the wiring diagram and the service manual for the system. If the system won't disarm by unlocking the front door with the key, then either the switch at that door is disconnected or not functioning, or there is a short at the body control module's black plug where perhaps the plug/pins at its socket has become corroded or otherwise contaminated so as to produce connection problem. The BCM is located on the right side cowl above the kick panel (essentially to the right of the passenger's right shin). It has to be accessed by removing the dash end cap, remove the cowl trim panel, pull the back the carpet to expose the dash lining and cutting the dash lining along the perforated lines. Then there is a screw that is accessed thru an oblong hole in the knee bolster and the push-in fastener at the lower leg of the module, then move the module down and out to access the plugs. If this doesn't make sense then maybe the most efficient way would be for me to xerox the three pages from the manual so you would have that to work from and the one page wiring diagram. The service manual has a lot of pages, but the bottom line for your situation is that "if the door key off manoeuver doesn't disarm the system then replace the body computer"...but I would not go that route until you check the plugs at the BCM because those have a reputation for getting fouled up by intrusion of water around the windshield that can drip down onto them.
If you can neatly get to the module and check out the black plug (of the 3 plugs on the bcm) you may be able to clean up the contacts with a spray can of electronic contact cleaner available at an electronics supply store. The other possibilitiy is the door switches need to be cleaned up as well as the trunk lock position sensor switch. So give that a try and/or tell me you postal mailing address and I'll do the copying and mail it to you today.
