Chrysler Repair: brake lights, amp fuse, brake light switch

Question
I have a 1996 crysler town and country lxi the brake lights dont work. I have changed all the bulbs and the fuse is good where should i look next?

Answer
Hi Steve,

My Haynes manual covers the '96-99 models and the brake circuit appears pretty simple. The 20 amp fuse #16 should be hot all the times and send power to the brake light switch which is mounted on the underside of the dash next to the brake pedal arm so that when you step on the brake the plunger on the switch extends to close the switch and sends the current on to the brake bulbs on a white/tan wire.
Perhaps the plug for that switch has come disconnected or the switch plunger doesn't extend positively to close the switch contacts.
So go to the switch and verify that you have 12V on the pink/dark blue incoming wire, and then check that there is continuity between that wire's connector on the switch and the connector for the white/tan wire when you step on the brake, and finallly check that 12V is reaching the bulb socket on the white/tan wire of the bulb plugs.
