Chrysler Repair: 1997 Town and Country minivan, thread chaser, o2 sensor

Question
I need to know where the o2 sensor is located and how I can replace it.  After hooking it up to the computer for diagnosis, it read that it was the CYI bank #1, sensor #2.  Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
Hello H. Reams,
I believe that the #1 bank is the left side of the engine, the side that faces the front of the van. The #2 sensor is in the catalytic converter (or directly to the rear of the catalytic converter) that is in the exhaust stream for that side of the engine. I suspect that you will need to jack up the van or roll it up on ramps to find the sensor for R&R. The #1 sensors are before the catalytic converter, usually at the outlets of the exhaust manifolds.
Use some penetrating oil on the threads for a few hours or overnight to loosen it, and then remove it with rocking back and forth to loosen up corroded threads, if present.
You may want to clean the threads with a thread chaser, and be sure to use the anti-seize compound on the threads when you put in the new one. Tighten similarly to that of a spark plug.
