Question
Are master cylinders for an 1986 chysler fifth avenue rebuildable? I am on my third rebuilt master cylinder from a national auto chain store.
I reviewed my manual that says "manufacturer says
1983 and newer aluminium master cylinders are not
rebuildable.

Hi David,
I agree with your manual. The Chrysler shop manuals make the point the aluminum master cylinders have an anodized bore and so honing of the wall will remove the surface, which subjects it to rapid wear subsequently. So if the cylinder is honed in the rebuild it will not last. Ideally the rebuilder would know this and only rebuild cylinders that don't require honing.
