Chrysler Repair: 86 2.2L (No Turbo) Radiator Cooling Fan, radiator cooling fan, lebaron gts

Question
Hi Roland, I have a 1986 Chrysler LeBaron GTS 2.2L (No Turbo) H-Body. My issue is with the single radiator cooling fan. The fan runs constantly - with the relay clicking constantly. If I push the A/C button, the relay stops clicking and the fan stops. I just bought a new cooling fan relay, but there are two under the hood which it could be - one on the strut tower and one on the fender near the battery, could you please tell me which one is the fan relay? Also, I replaced the coolant temp sensor in 2000, so it's not very old. Thanks so much! Jason

Answer
Hi Jason,
My '86 Chrysler shop manual shows there to be 2 relays on the driver side strut tower, the inner one for the starter motor the outer one for the fan. The one on the fender is for the A/C clutch. Also you could probably feel or listen to find which one is clicking that way. If the new relay doesn't fix it then maybe there is a problem with a loose wire to the socket, one that controls the relay actuation coil so that it is causing the relay to cycle that way. The fan of course should be 'on' whenever the A/C is in action.
