Chrysler Repair: 96 chry sebring fuel pump relay, fuel pump relay, fuel pump

Question
I was told there two fuel pump relays. #1 for start up (1-2 sec) and #2 for normal running. I replaced #1 relay in 2001 for an instant fix. I replaced #1 relay in 2004 for an instant fix. I replaced #1 relay in oct 2005 for an instant fix but it stoped working after 5 starts. One day later replaced #1 relay for an instant fix but it only lasted 7 starts.I can crank and crank or prime the intake to start the car and it runs fine with a Bad #1 relay. While starting -stoping-starting-stoping to test this last relay a misfire code kicked out. I have not confirmed that the relay is burned up, I just replaced it. Trial end error was my method in 2001. The #1 relay was the cheapest fuel pump relay so I started there. What would fry #1 and not #2.

Answer
Hi John,
I am unclear about two fuel pump relays: the 1-2 second relay may be the autoshutdown relay which is what you hear power up the actual fuel pump relay and pump when you first turn the ignition to run. It stops if you don't start the engine after 1-2 seconds because it is designed to do that (shut off the fuel pump and spark when the engine isn't actually running, so as prevent a fire in the case of an accident). Then there is the true fuel pump relay itself which is controlled by the autoshutdown relay. I don't believe you know whether you have a relay problem or not.
The autoshutdown relay will only work if a number of other sensors are working too.
So tell me will the engine just not start and run at all? Or exactly what do you have to do to make it start and run, and does it run well once you get it started?  We have to determine why that is (no spark, no fuel, or poor mixture, or something else).
So do the code readout and tell me the numbers, if you can get that via the ignition on-off-on-off-on approach. Let me know as much detail about where thing stand NOW and we'll go from there. And also, are we dealing with the 2.5L V-6 with the automatic trans?
