Chrysler Repair: 1995 chrysler concorde computer codes, powertrain control module, 1995 chrysler concorde

Question
I have a chrysler concorde with a 3.5 liter engine and code 27 comes up,how do i repair it?It is using a lot of gas more then normal,it also just had the oxygyn sensors changed.

Answer
Hi Herb,
The code means that the PCM (powertrain control module) has detected that one (or more) of the injectors is not behaving electrically as it is supposed to, which could mean not injecting fuel or perhaps injecting without control. Unfortunately which one it is cannot be determined by the OBD-I type of system that is used on a car of that vintage.
But have you noticed a miss as the engine is idling? If so, you might then find out which cylinder's injector is bad by successively removing and replacing the spark plug caps on each cylinder until you find one that doesn't make the situation worse, which would be the cylinder that is already "dead". I would then check the injector harness wiring to that cylinder as far back to the PCM harness as you can go, and also check the disconnect plug(s) looking for any looseness or cracks or breaks in the insulation of frankly broken wires. Try wiggling the wires with the engine running as well if it is not missing to see if you can induce a miss. If all that fails to reveal a cause for the failed injector then replacing the injector in question (if you can identify it) seems to be in order. Of course you can get into a more in depth approach with an ignition diagnostic instrument (Chrysler DRB-I for example at a dealer) to nail the problem exactly which might save the cost of an injector if that is not the basic reason for the problem, but if you have to pay someone to do it, the cost of an injector might be more economical. So give that approach a try, and please let me know what you find.
