Chrysler Repair: 03 T&C fuse, blown fuse, cigar lighter

Question
I plugged a DC adapter into the cigarette lighter of my 03 Town & Country causing the outlet AND the radio to go out.  The owners manual isn't much help on which fuse does what.  Any chance a novice like me can fix this myself or take it in?

Answer
Hi Kevin,
If you will look for a blown fuse you will find the answer.
Usually at each fuse socket there is a printed hint as to what it is powering. The fuses are generally transparent so you can find the one with a broken internal wire. I would begin by looking in the long thin rectangular box under the hood next to the battery which contains relays and fuses. The fuses in this box are those that either power major systems or circuits that aren't mediated by the ignition switch but rather are on all the time (like the cigar lighter or the radio memory section). In the '98 model that appears to be fuse numbered 28 in that box, but it could be a different number by '03. If you don't find a bad fuse there, then look under the dash on the driver's side for more fuses. In '98 there was a fuse #8 that also fed the radio. I think you can find it with a few minutes of pulling out fuses in both locations and checking them visually. The odds are good.
