Chrysler Repair: Spark Plug Removal - 95 Concord 3.5, porcelain insulator, torque wrench

Question
Roland: I want to make sure I understand getting to spark plugs on the 3.5L in a '95 Concord. The plugs are located in the center of the heads. Twist / lift the boot of the plug wire and it will seperate from the plug. Remove the old plug and install new - torque to 20lbs. Is this correct or did I miss something?

Answer
Hi Bill,
That is the basic idea. Of course don't pull on the wire, rather pull the boot. Then you might want to relube the inside of the boots with silicone based di-electric grease IF they seem dry, but don't overdue it. The other grease that is more important to use is "anti-seize" compound applied to the threads of the new plugs, again uniformly but sparingly, and be careful not to get any on the center porcelain insulator of the plug. That will insure that the plugs don't corrode in the head and make for a miserable time when they are later to be removed. Also, to be sure that you don't cross-thread the holes in the block just use your fingers and a spark plug socket that grips the plug when you approach the installation. You should be able to turn the plugs by hand to the point where the gasket seats, then use the torque wrench.
