Chrysler Repair: Spark plug location, chrysler 300m, torque wrench

Question
Hi I own a 2001 chrysler 300m with a 3.5l engine and my sons were changing going to chande the spark plugs but couldn't find the location of them.

Answer
Hi Jeanne,
The spark plugs are located on the top of the engine. If they look at the valve covers on either side of the mid-line they will see three spark plug boots on each of the covers, hidden between the "arms" of the intake manifold. When removing the old plugs, begin by twisting boot on the end of each wire, not the wire itself, and once that is loose then pull on the boot only. Pulling on the wire will result in damage to the wire and boot requiring replacement.
They should use a spark plug socket with a foam insert so as to be able to grip the plugs to lift them out of the holes after they are unscrewed. They would be smart too to get a small tube of anti-seize compound and apply it sparingly to the threads of the new plugs. Also they need to take care to make sure the new plugs are aligned with the axis of the hole in the head so as not cross-thread the holes. Use fingers only to turn then into the first few threads of the hole to verify that the plugs are aligned properly before using any tool on the socket to tighten them further. It should require very little effort to tighten the plugs for about 10 turns, until they hit bottom, and if they aren't going in easily their is a good chance they are going in cross-threaded. Stop at once of that is the case and begin again. Use a torque wrench to get the set to 20 ft-lbs, again so as not to damage the threads in the holes. .
Those are some suggestions and information as to location.
Tell them to take their time to do the job right for the consequences of damage to the threads is costly. If they don't have good tools, get them first before damage is done.
