Chrysler Repair: AC NOT BLOWING AS COLD AS IT SHOULD, chrysler new yorker, yorker landau

Question
Hi, I have a 1988 Chrysler New Yorker Landau v6 I think 3.0 liter. I just got done having my ac compressor, dryer tank and expansion valve replaced and converted over to R134A. The shop I took it to said that for some reason it was not blowing air out any colder then 75 degrees. I tried doing a little code test I got from this site where you hold 3 buttons in at the same time but it only brought a code of 01. The shop said the the high and low side pressure was good but couldnt figure it out without having to spend several more hours of labor trying to diagnose it. Any help would be greatly apreciated.  thanks

Answer
Hi Tom,
The code you got is valid. The code numbers mentioned in the earlier response are for later versions of the ATC. The 01 code refers to the blend air door, which is responsible for controlling the air temp by diversion of the incoming air to the evaporator (cooling coil) and the heater coil in varying amounts to achieve the preset temperature. It could either be a mechanically binding door, a problem with the electrical door actuator, or a problem with the control "head" itself. The shop manual for '89 (which no doubt applies to your '88) has about a half page test procedure to figure out what is wrong. I could either xerox that page (and mail it to you at no cost), or copy the entire section on the ATC (14 pages) and postal mail them to you at cost (5 cents a side, plus postage, which you can remit after you get them). If you have a pretty good idea of how to take the unit apart, etc, I could type in the half-page procedure now, if the temps in your area are an urgent issue for you. So let me know what you would like me to do. I believe you would do well to try to fix this yourself rather than turn it over to a shop that doesn't have a manual or experience with the ATC.
