Chrysler Repair: sterring wheel, chrysler intrepid, circular bands

i have a 1995 chrysler intrepid and the sterring wheel flops up and down no matter where it is set. it doesn't flop much but enough to be noticable turning corners. any help would be appreciated. thank you  scott

Hi Scott,
Unfortunately I don't have a factory shop manual for the Intrepid so I can't be specific about how to get at the brackets that hold the central part of the steering column to the dash structure. You might take a look at the area under the dash that is just below the tilting part and see if you can see some semi-circular bands of metal that have 2  bolts on either side of the column and which may have loosened enough to allow the column to move up and down or side to side.
The Cirrus/Stratus manual for '96 that I own shows that to get to those bolts you have to do alot of disassembly of the steering wheel and column covers before you can reach those flange bands that actually secure the column in place, but maybe on the Intrepid it is different. Then you could just tighten the bolts. So get under the dash and look at the column for any signs of a bracket that holds the column to the underside of the dash structure.
