Chrysler Repair: Wifes 88 New Yorker has laid up too long, fuel pressure regulator, egr valve

Question
Wife got sick, quit driving. I occassionally started car until battery went dead 2-3 years ago. Just put in a new battery and some fresh gas but couldn't get it cranked. Engine spins good. Tried some "starting spray" and was able to make it run a few seconds. I disconnected fuel line under hood and saw gas in it but I don't smell any when I'm trying to crank it. No diagnostic codes have been logged. Please offer some suggestions to help get it started again, Thanks.

Answer
Hi Jerry,
I would check for spark. And also listen to hear the fuel pump run for a second or so when you turn the ignition switch to 'run', without trying the starter motor. I assume that you have a turbo engine, but if not you could check at the throttle body to see if the single injector there is spraying fuel when you crank the car. Most of those will require a helper to operate the ignition key while you do things under the hood.
Otherwise, check a plug to see if it is wet. If you have spark and there is evidence for gas, then without codes it is a challenge. It might be a stuck open egr valve or a MAP sensor that is off value but not so much as to set a code, or a fuel pressure regulator. But get back to me with the test results.
