Chrysler Repair: 2000 cavalier 2.2 motor - car hot, gm chevrolet, radiator hose

Question
Hi, the car had a bottom radiator hose leaking. The band was almost off the  T-hose. The needle is in the red hot level.  I had the T-hose changed out and the thermostat changed, but it is still in the hot mark.  What else can it be?

thanks

Answer
Hi Connie,
Isn't a Cavalier a Chevrolet? If you have a 2.2 Chrysler 4 cyl engine then there could be an explanation for the continuing hight temp reading, specifically air trapped in the thermostat housing. You can get rid of that by draining off a couple of quarts of coolant having first run the car and turned on the heater, then shut it off. Then you remove the set screw on the top of the thermostat housing and refill the system thru the radiator cap until you see the water reach the top of the thermostat housing, then you put the set screw back in and refill the rest of the way. But if this car is a GM Chevrolet then this procedure is not relevant, thought you could have air trapped somewhere in the cooling system.
Let me know what we have to deal with if this is not helpful to  you.
