Chrysler Repair: Coolant leak, coolant leak, bum steer

Question
I took my 93 Chrysler Town & Country to the dealer for an oil change.  The next day I noticed a coolant leak under the front on the passenger side.  Called dealer, who looked at it and said I needed a water pump.  Took the car to my local mechanic who replaced the water pump, but said it looked like it had not been leaking. The coolant still leaks...drips steadily when engine is running, continues after shut down, then stops.

Answer
Hi McKenzie,
You didn't mention which engine you have (2.5, 3.0, 3.3) but in any case there are of course hoses carrying coolant  with end clamps that might be loose or a hose itself is cracked in that area of the engine. I would encourage you to get on some work clothes and slide under the van and with a flashlight look up from the spot where the water drips down to see if you see a cooling hose fitting to be leaking or a water "track" flowing down the surface of the engine block that you can trace back to its origin. Then take action accordingly. It is unfortunate that the dealer gave you a bum steer, but at least you know that your water pump is new. Feel free to ask further if you get a handle on the source of the leak and need some suggestions on how to correct it. The system is pressurized when it is hot which expains the leak continuing after shut down.
