Chrysler Repair: crankshaft sprocket removal, thrust bearing, plymouth voyager

Question
i have a 95 plymouth voyager with a 2.5 engine, i am trying to change the front oil seal. i haven't been able to remove the crankshaft sprocket because a harmonic ballance puller can't work because the sprocket has 5 holes and they won't line up so that the puller is centered. i guess that if i had a different kind of harmonic ballance puller it would work, but i haven't been able to locate a puller that would work.  the book shows a picture of a 2 bolt puller being used, but that would work only when there are 4 holes, and i have 5. also, the book shows a sprocket that is all teeth, mine has teeth for the timing belt as well as about 1 or 2 inches of solid steel above, or in front of the teeth, so that the pulley will stick out further.   thank you very much for your time, mario

Answer
Hi Mario,
Just for clarity, we are talking about a 2.5L 4 cyl engine, correct? (There is a 2.5 6 cyl also) I haven't had the "pleasure" of pulling the sprocket on my '89 2.5 non-turbo yet so about all I can do is look at my manual. That manual shows what very well might be a 5 bolt puller (tool C-4685, a 5.9" bolt, and an insert (rod that goes between the bolt tip and the hole bottom of the crank). Reinsertion uses the same bolt, a Plate L-4524, and a thrust bearing and washer. The sprocket is shown as you describe it to be.
So I guess the issue is where to buy or rent such tools. At least you now know there are specific tools for this part of the job. I suppose the dealer is one place to look to see if they can order the parts, or check with one of the tool supply companies to the auto repair "trade". I wonder if someone might have one for auction in eBay? Or you might try one of the Yahoo auto groups like "TheChryslerLeBaronClub" to see if any of the 1,000 members there might have the tools and would lend them to you. Let me know if you want the figures from the '89 shop manual that show these and I will xerox and mail them to you on Monday.
Let me know if I can be of further help.
