Chrysler Repair: Serpentine Belt, serpentine belt, advanced auto

Question
Hello, I have a 1997 Town and Country. A few days ago the battery light came on and the interior lights started flickering. When I stopped the van and then got in to start it again, it would not start. We jumped it off and took it to Advanced Auto to have the battery tested. They tested the battery and the alternator and said both were fine. The next day the same thing happened so we took it to a local dealership. They called and said the battery was bad so we had them replace it. Twenty minutes after driving off the lot at the dealership the car overheated AND the battery light came on again. We took it back to the dealership and they called and said that the serpentine belt was on backwards. (The belt was replaced 2 years ago and has not been touched since.) My question is could the van have run correctly for 2 years with the serpentine belt on backwards? It is my opinion that the dealership loosened the belt while checking for the cause of the problem and did not put it back on correctly, thus causing it to overheat. When I mentioned that to the mechanic, he said no, that did not happen, that they would have no reason to loosen or remove the belt. However, 3 months previously, the van was overheating and was brought to the same dealership and they did not say anything about the belt being on backwards at that time. Am I being taken or could the van have actually been running for 2 years with the belt on backwards and the mechanics somehow didn't notice the first time?
