Chrysler Repair: Transmission Change, 1992 chrysler lebaron, chrysler lebaron

Question
I have a 1992 Chrysler Lebaron that has the computered Transmission Auto with the 3,0L 4 speed that went South. I want to know if the Auto 3 speed Transmission will work ?  and what i will need to make it work.
Thank You Dave

Answer
Hi Dave,
Sorry to hear that the 4-speed EATX unit gave up. You had the codes readout and determined that it isn't something doesn't require rebuild?
As for a substitution transmission, as far as I know the 3 speed was never used on the 3.0L probably because of interfacing non-compatibility between the engine and the bell housing. But I do believe the manual 5 speed can be installed but you have to put in the clutch activating pedal for that.
I have a suggestion: if you haven't participated in the two Yahoo groups of LeBaron owners, why not check those out and ask the question there? I have an '89 LeBaron coupe with the 2.5L 3 speed trans and I am aware of the cost when the 4 speed goes out. So the question has come up there already and many of the thousand members are in the same boat with you. So just go to:
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/thechryslerlebaronclub
and
also the same url except substitute   /chryslerlebaron
and you will be able to read the posts and search for the topic. Or just join and ask the question. We ask people not to post the same question at both groups so as to avoid duplication and confusion. I'm the co-moderator of the Club.
I'm sure you will get the scoop on what choices you have.
