Chrysler Repair: A/C in car, water hoses, incoming air

Question
The left side of my car does blows air, but when I turn on the heat it doesn't get warm.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Answer
Hi Mike,
There are a number of possibilities:
Is the engine running warm enough (does the engine temp gauge read at least 1/4 of full scale?) If not then the thermostat might be stuck open
Is the heated coolant circulating thru the heater core. Feel the incoming and outgoing water hoses at the firewall between the engine compartment and the cabin from the engine compartment side of the wall. They should feel about equally warm. If one is cold, the the core is plugged or the core is being by-passed by a stuck open by-pass valve which should be closed except when you have the setting for "max a.c.".
Finally, the door that directs incoming air to flow by the heater core may not be moving in response to your moving the temp lever. Does that lever feel detached, can you hear anything move when you adjust the temp from cold to hot?
If not, then you may need to remove the heater control unit from the console and check whether the lever is attached to the cable that operates the temp (air direction over the core) door and also see that the door moves in response.
Those are some ideas. Tell me what car and year you have and whether any of my questions have answers.
