Chrysler Repair: dashboard instruments, concorde air, fuse box

Question
'95 Chrylser Concorde Air bag light would come on for a while then go off is now on all the time. Now my gauges - speedometer, temp and fuel gauges don't work also the heater fan is on all the time, can't put it off. Is this a fuse problem.

Answer
Hi Ann,
There is probably a different explanation for each of your problems. On the air bag light, it will certainly light if any of the fuses or ground wires are not functional. So look on your fuse box and in your owner's manual to find which fuses are assiged to the air bag system. The system also monitors the collision detector wires so if you can't find a bad fuse then there may be a wiring problem.
Similarly there are probably 2 fuses that need to be working for the gauges to function. So look at the manual and at the fuse box (which is no doubt under the dash on the driver's side of the car).
If the fan won't shut off at all, then I believe that the problem is either with the fan control switch itself or there is a false grounding of the wire from the motor to that switch so the switch is being by-passed. If you could turn it off, but it had the problem of always running on high speed no matter which speed you asked for (a more common problem) then that is cause by a faulty blower fan "resistor block". That is a replaceable part located either in the blower housing or on the firewall behind the glove box (more likely the former than the latter, which was the position used until the mid-90's). So depending upon which is your situation I would look accordingly.
I am sorry that I don't have the wiring diagrams for the Concorde model to direct you to exactly which fuses, but the chances are good that if you have the manual or will look at the fuse box you will find some information to direct you as to which fuses to look carefully at for patency.
