Chrysler Repair: fuel gauge, full tank, body control module

Question
My fuel gauge warning light comes on, even with a full tank, about every 5 seconds with a chime.  The needle goes to empty then back up to full.  How can I disconnect the warning function..it's driving me nuts..Thanks (This is a 2003 Serbring)

Answer
Hi Dave,
I am uncertain about the Sebring's way of sensing a low fuel level, it is a little newer than the time period of my self-proclaimed espertise!
I need to know if the Sebring handles the fuel level sensing as a variable voltage all the way thru the circuit or if it digitizes the signal at the body control module and then sends it to the dash panel where a light comes on.
But the fact that the gas gauge also zeroes out momentarily makes me thing that the problem is with the level sending unit located in the fuel tank. So that even if you could kill the sound you will still have the needle bouncing up and down, which may become equally annoying.
So you might want to change out the sender in the tank, which I believe you may be able to do without lowering the tank but it would need to be quite low in level of fuel at the time. The warning sound is tied to the reading coming from that sender and if the sender is flakey the sound is going to reflect that. The sound is used for other warnings as well so you don't want to kill the sound for every warning, I suspect. There appears to me to be no way selectively kill the low fuel warning sound and still have a gauge and a general warning sound that still work.
I am basing this on a '94 LeBaron and a '96 Cirrus diagram so I could be off base on this analysis. Sorry to not be able to answer you more definitively.
