Chrysler Repair: heater problem, power brake booster, dual climate

Question
97 chrysler town & country van.
It has dual climate control (manual controls). The driver side has heat but the passenger side just blows cold air.

Answer
Hi Dave,
I unfortunately don't have any experience or manuals about vans. But in general the Chrysler system uses a moveable door inside the unit to direct the air to a lesser or greater degree thru the heater core. There are three possible control means: mechanical, vacuum driven door motors and electric driven door motors. The vacuum type would have a small hose branching off of the main vacuum hose at the power brake booster canister and routed toward the firewall at the middle of the car then thru the wall to the heater unit. If you have than you might well check the vacuum line for tightness of fittings and absence of cracks. Look on the cabin side too for the hose which has a check valve in it and the it attached to the vacuum switch that moves the doors. On the mechanical type the heater temp lever has a cable the moves the door in question.
And the electric has an electric switch that controls a small motor in the unit that moves the doors. I don't know how there dual control units are set up to control the heat levels on either side. But you might take a flashlight and look at the temp setting lever and see how it appears to function, even remove the control panel to examine that control and from that you could pursue the reason one side works and the other doesn't.
