Hi, I just bought some Gunk Trans-Medic to put into my auto. transmission on my 3.3L 96 Chrysler Intrepid. I have no idea where to pour it in, there is no apparent cap so I'm guessing I use a funnel and pour it in the dipstick hole. Is this correct?

Hi John,
Yes that is correct. BUT, I would urge you to think again about putting the Gunk compound in your tranny. That electronic controlled trans is very sensitive to what it swallows, in fact it really needs Chrysler brand trans fluid to be sure that it runs right. If you are having trouble with the trans, I would consider either doing a drain and filter change making sure you use the Chrysler brand of fluid OR that you have the trans controller readout for fault codes associated with its operation. This latter approach would be the thing to do first if you are experiencing the trans shifting down into 2nd and refusing to shift into anyother gear because that is called 'limp-in' mode and it is an emergency mode that allows you to drive to get repairs without doing further damage to the unit. And a trouble code that explains why the trans controller thinks there is a problem is logged into the memory. You would probably find a code reader at a Chrysler agency, or a very experienced independent tranny shop. But don't trust anyone who says they have a reader, they may not have the plug to match the Chrysler body/tranny computer plug or the soft ware to do the reading.
That is my best advice. That tranny is very expensive to repair if it has to be torn down, so consider carefully before trying something stop-gap. Let me know if you get a code readout and what the trouble code was, and we can compare what the shop says is wrong with what the Chrysler manual
I have says the codes mean, and what they recommend for repair.

Hi there, thanks for your reply. Currently the car runs fine in 1st and 2nd and jsut has a slight studder going into 3rd gear I presume it is, at 80km/h or 50m/h. But it does shift into 3rd. Sometimes I'll rev it up and let it coast over 80km/h and then give it gas to increase speed but and there is no problem at all. It only seems to happen sometimes and only at 80km/h. Over and below that speed it runs flawlessly.

Answer
Hi John,
I'm glad you are only having that one problem. I would not put the Gunk in, but rather return it. Count the gear shifts again. I believe that if there is a studder at 50 mph that my really be the overdrive 4th gear clutch. But take it easy on the tranny and it may not get worse too quickly. Keep it going as long as you can! Just stick with Chrysler trans fluid from the dealer parts dept.
