Chrysler Repair: driver side climate control does not work, climate control unit, chrysler town and country

Question
driver side climate control does not work on 1996 chrysler town and country...pax side seems to respond to both hot and cold settings.  Driver side will not heat...just cold air.

Answer
Hi Lew,
I thought some more about your problem:
It could be that the vacuum supply line that powers the internal door controls that mix hot and cold air is compromised. The line branches off from the large vacuum hose that runs to the power brake cannister in the engine compartment on the driver's side. It is a thin line that heads back to the middle of the fire wall and through that to get to the climate control unit in the cabin. You might want to take a close look at that thin plastic line to make sure it is firmly attached at the big hose, and that it isn't cracked. Then in the cabin look for it on the right hand side of the ATC unit coming in from the front of the car and attaching to the vacuum control unit. It has a check valve in the line so there are several places where it might be loose and allowing the vacuum level to drop which means that the door that mixes air from the heater core is not moving properly to add that air to the cold air with which it is mixed. Otherwise the problem is internal and will require some disassembly.
