Chrysler Repair: cmo or ckp, crankshaft position sensor, engine controller

Question
i hooked up a odb to see whats wrong with my car .And this is the number it gave me (1391)i looked it up and this is what it said cmp or ckp what is that

Answer
Hi Amber,
The ckp is crankshaft position sensor and the cmp is camshaft position sensor. The sensors send signals to the engine controller that determines the timing of the spark and the actuation of the fuel injectors. You didn't mention which year, model and engine you have so I can't offer much beyond that. Because the code means there is an intermittant loss of signal from one or the other of these sensors, one of the corrective actions is to check and clean the electical connections with contact cleaner, and to try wiggling their cables with the engine idling to see if the idle speed changes which would give you a hint as to what is causing the intermittancy. If that doesn't help then consider the possibility that a sensor is not adjusted properly or is beginning to fail. I might be able to help you locate these sensors if you tell me the year, model and engine in your vehicle. But I personnaly haven't worked on cars with these sensors; I just have a manual or two I can refer to.
