Question
1992 CHRYSLER. V8,AUTO. THE PROBLEM IS THE BUTTON ON THE FLOOR SHIFTER WONT PUSH IN SO IT CAN BE SHIFTED OUT OF PARK. THE BRAKE LIGHTS WORK AND THE KEY INTERLOCK WORKS AS WELL.ANY IDEALS?

Answer
Hi again Tommy,
I found a section in the '94 FWD manual that desribes how to adjust the shifter/ignition interlock cable. If you will tell me which model Chrysler you have I can tell you how to do this more quickly and accurately. If you have another vehicle the principle is basically to gain access to the interlock connection cable (at the base of the floor shifter) where you will see the cable and an adjustable connection (slot) of the cable flange to the shift lever. Begin by setting the ignition key in the Accessory (not the Lock) position. Then you will loosen the adjustment nut so that it will allow you to move the shifter in such a way as to release the push button when the lever is in Park. Then tighten the adjustment nut to between 15 and 25 inch-pounds. But there maybe some details about the knob on the top and the removal of the console about which you may need some direction.
So let me know if you have Shadow, Sundance, LeBaron, LeBaron Landau, Spirit, or Acclaim model and I can tell you more. If you have another model, take a look for a similar set-up and do the adjustment that I described.
