Chrysler Repair: chrylster labaron, engine computer, warning light

Question
Hi,  I have a 1991 Labaron which has been an incredibly relaible car until recently.  A few months ago while driving the car caught on fire.  I had the entire exhaust system replaced.  Now the car runs great until you stop and turn it off, then it will either not start at all or will but runs really bad and has to be turned off.  Once the car is cool again it will run fine... Do you have any idea of what could be causing this?

Thanks!

Melanie

Answer
Hi Again,
I was wondering if you had any luck with the fault code readout? Also, if you write back tell me which engine you have. There are a couple of possibilities for your problem, but the fault code might get us right to the answer.

Hello Melanie,
Out of curiousity was the fire confined to the exhaust system or was there any damage to the wiring in the engine compartment?
The quickist way to get at this problem is to ask the engine computer to readout any fault codes it may have detected. All you have to do is use your ignition key and turn it: "on-off-on-off-on" and leave it "on", within an elapsed time of 5 seconds or less. Then observe the 'check engine'(or 'power loss' if you have a turbo) warning light to begin to flash, pause, flash, pause, etc. Just count the number of flashes before each pause and make a note of these numbers in the order that they occur. The last two groups of flashes will number 5 in each, which is the code for "end of read out". Just write back and tell me the flash counts that you observe. Repeat the readout again to make sure you have the count exactly correct because those are specific to giving me a clue about what is wrong. Then I can advise on what to do to correct the problem.
