Chrysler Repair: Power top, lift switch, seat work

Question
Hi again Roland,
Electical maladies continue to plague me! The power top on my 1990 LeBaron convertable 3.0L 4spd auto has quit.
It was working fine last night. The next morning, all I heard was a "click" from the relay located in the trunk by the power top motor/pump when I activated the "up" or "down" switch for the top.

I took the relay out, opened it up and cleaned both contacts with crocus cloth and electrical cleaner, reassembled and had the same result as before...just a "clicking' of the relay.
Any thoughts Roland would be appreciated. By the way, thankyou for the copies of schematics you snail mailed me; I will be returning postage and handling.
Cheers,
Rick Coneybeer

Answer
Hi Rick,
The other part of the circuit is the main power for the motor that comes to the relay on the heavier gauge red wire from the circuit breaker in fuse position #3. If the horn, headlamp doors and power seat work (if you have one) then that circuit breaker is o.k. So you should have 12V on that red wire coming to the relay. If you do, and now that you have cleaned the relay contacts, it pretty much gets to the motor's brushes. Other converible owners have reported success in replacing the brushes, going to an electric motor repair shop and getting brushes of a similar size (or slightly larger) and filing them down to fit in the holder. So that is my suggestion.
If you want to be absolutely sure that the relay is working, you could verify that the relay is actually switching the voltage to the motor by checking the electrical disconnect plug between the relay and the motor. The 12V should appear on one pin or the other of that plug {when compared to ground (a shiney spot on the motor sructure or body)} when you 'raise' and 'lower' the lift switch position
Good to hear from you, Rick.
